With family ties to Zimbabwe and South Africa while growing up in the US, Shingi is a part of the worldwide reverse brain drain among Millennial African Diasporans, applying knowledge of American and European technology and financial systems to support sustained economic growth back on the continent. He founded Asoba in 2021 to specifically tackle the energy distribution problem emerging across Africa from the mass deployment of distributed solar.

Previously strategy & operations at Google’s Capital G growth fund, head of strategy at Lumen, a US-based solar developer helping large asset managers electrify their building portfolios

He has spent 10+ years in the data science space prior to that, building ML/AI-based products primarily in healthcare, including founding ProjectVision, a behavioral risk management app for diabetes patients which he ran from 2011-2017.
